Horse Training
Shelly Gillis Bio:
When I was about ten years old my parents took us on a road trip to my aunt and uncle's horse farm in Colorado and again a couple of years later when they moved to Montana. My aunt spent a week of that second trip teaching my sister and me all about showmanship and at the end of the week we got to compete in a local horse show. And so the obsession began. From that point on I knew I wanted to be a horse trainer when I grew up.
Shortly after that trip my parents bought me my first horse, the neighbor's 14 year old quarterhorse who seemed ready for retirement. He was good for a beginner but I quickly out grew him and he was sold. A few months later my parents bought me what would soon become the horse of my dreams. My mom made sure I had riding lessons for the next three years. During that time my trainer instructed me how to train my horse. He was 15'2 hands, almost black with 3 white socks, a wide blaze down his face, a long flowing mane and blue eyes. He was ½ Arab ½ Quarterhorse and only four years old. He was absolutely beautiful. We spent the next three years training him English saddle seat and Western pleasure and took him to all the schooling and open shows we could find within a reasonable distance.
That was then....
And this is now...
Over the years I've developed my own natural approach to gently train horses and have recently started the process in becoming a certified instructor through World Renowned Natural Horsemanship Instructor and "Horse Whisperer", Frank Bell. I utilize his 7-Step Safety System designed to focus on the development of a "safe" relationship with the horse. I specialize in ground work and starting young horses, pleasure and trail horse training, reconditioning horses that haven't been ridden in a while, and retraining horses that may not have received a solid foundation in the beginning.
If you're looking for a trainer to quickly train your horse to get into the show ring as fast as possible, I'm not that trainer. I'm the trainer that's going to get your future performance champion or pleasure horse started with a solid foundation at a reasonable rate so you will only need to spend the big bucks on a discipline specific national level trainer for the show ring.
